AI Markdown editor on Mac: you keep the decision
Marko’s assistant works on your selection, not the whole file. You highlight a passage, you write an instruction, it proposes a version. You see the difference between the old text and the proposal, and you choose to apply or cancel. Nothing is written until you say so.
A proposal you approve
When the assistant replies, it does not replace your text behind your back. It shows the edit: the original passage and the proposal, so you read both before you decide. Apply writes the new version in place of the selection; Cancel leaves it untouched. Either way, the rest of the document stays put.
You keep a plain .md file, which your colleagues reopen in the editor of their choice. The assistant locks you into no format: it reworks the text, and you save it like any other Markdown.
How it works
- Highlight the passage to rework.
- Write your instruction: sharpen a goal, summarize, rephrase, translate the selection.
- Read the proposed difference, the old text next to the new one.
- Choose Apply to write the proposed version, or Cancel to keep yours.
A worked example
Take the example brief and open it in Marko. Highlight the goal line, something like “Ship the new version before the end of the quarter”. Write “Make this goal more specific and measurable”. The assistant proposes a rewrite, perhaps with a date and a number to track. You compare it with yours in the difference screen, then keep whichever one fits. If the proposal misses the point, you cancel and reword the instruction: the file has not moved in the meantime.
Instructions for the task at hand
| What you write | What the assistant proposes |
|---|---|
| “Summarize this paragraph in three sentences” | A shorter version of the passage, to compare before you adopt it |
| “Rephrase this more directly” | The same point, turned differently, on the selection alone |
| “Translate this part into French” | The translation of the highlighted passage, the rest of the file unchanged |
| “Make this goal more specific” | A proposal that tightens the wording, which you keep or not |
A useful instruction comes down to little: one task at a time, a short passage rather than a full page, and where it helps, who the text is for or the length you want. The sharper the ask, the more the proposal is worth reading.
You approve every proposal. The assistant never touches the file before your click. Until you choose Apply, your text stays exactly as you wrote it.
Your key or a local model
The assistant uses your own provider key, or a model running on your machine with Ollama. You decide what leaves the Mac.
| Your choice | What leaves the machine |
|---|---|
| Provider key | The selection goes to that provider, under your account |
| Local model (Ollama) | The text stays on the Mac, nothing leaves |
| Demo on this site | No AI called, all of it local |
Files are read and saved on your Mac. The assistant acts on the passage you hand it, and its result always goes through the difference screen before it reaches the document.

Frequently asked questions
Does the assistant change my text without my say-so?
No. It shows the proposal next to the original passage, and nothing is written to the document until you choose Apply.
Does my text go to an AI provider?
It depends on your choice. With your provider key, the selection goes to that provider under your account; with a local model via Ollama, the text stays on the Mac. The demo on this site calls no AI.
Does the assistant act on the whole file?
No. It works on the passage you highlight. The rest of the document stays put.
Do I keep a plain Markdown file?
Yes. The assistant reworks the text, and you save it like any other .md, which your colleagues reopen in the editor of their choice.
