A Markdown table editor for Mac, without counting pipes
A Markdown table is held together by pipe characters and dashes. As soon as one column grows, the alignment drifts and the table gets hard to read. Marko opens the file on your Mac and lets you edit the table cell by cell, while the file stays plain .md.
Click a cell, type, confirm
It comes down to three moves. You click a cell in the table and it becomes editable. You type the new text. You press Enter and the entry is confirmed, with the table settling on its new value. No syntax to reopen, no pipes to recount by hand.
- Open your .md file in Marko, or paste your text into a new document.
- Click the cell you want to fix. It switches to editing.
- Type the value, then press Enter to confirm it.
- If the change is not right, click Undo to get the previous state back.
If an edit is not what you wanted, the Undo button restores the table to its previous state. You try a correction, compare it, and step back if you need to. That helps when a table comes from an AI reply and several cells need reworking in a row.
This is not an online table generator
Many “Markdown table” tools are web pages: you fill in a grid and the site hands you a block of text to paste back into your file. Marko works the other way. You edit the table where it lives, inside your document, on your machine. Nothing travels to a server to be formatted, and you never paste a block from one tab to another.
The file stays plain .md
After editing, the document is still standard Markdown, with its pipe characters and its separator dashes. You can reopen it in the editor of your choice, track it with Git, or send it to someone who does not have Marko. The formatted view is a comfortable layer over the text, not a separate format.
| In the source file | In Marko |
|---|---|
Pipes | to line up by hand | Cells you click into |
| A separator dash per column | The header row, formatted |
| One missing pipe shifts the cells in that row | Enter confirms, Undo steps back |
When this editing helps most
A spec, a comparison or a record of decisions often ends in a table. That is where typing straight into the source wears you down, because one missing pipe shifts the cells in that row. Editing by cell removes that risk: you work on the content, not on the punctuation that holds it up.
Worth knowing
