Edit Claude Markdown output on your Mac

Claude hands you a clean document, but raw Markdown still shows its hashes, asterisks and table bars. Marko opens that file on your Mac, renders it formatted and lets you fix the parts that matter before you keep it or export it.

Why Claude’s text looks raw

What Claude returns is often good as is: a clear outline, headings, lists, sometimes a table. The format, though, stays in code form. In the chat window, or in a .md file opened with a plain text editor, you see the Markdown symbols instead of the formatting they describe.

Take a snippet the way Claude writes it:

## Meeting notes
**Decisions made**
- Ship version 1 on March 12
- Hand the review to the product team

In Marko, that same snippet shows with a real heading, a bold subhead and a bullet list. You read the document; the hashes and asterisks drop out of the view but stay in the file.

Save Claude’s document as .md

Depending on how Claude answered, you have two paths.

  1. If the reply is in the chat, select the Markdown text and copy it. In Marko, create a document, switch to Source mode and paste. The file keeps exactly what Claude wrote.
  2. If Claude gave you a file to download, save it with the .md extension, then open it in Marko.

Either way, you start from the original text, with no reformatting and no loss.

Fix and finish the document

Once the file is open, work in Visual mode to read and in Source mode to touch the exact Markdown. You rework a phrase, cut a passage, add a row to a table.

Marko’s AI assistant works on a selection: clarify a paragraph, summarize it, translate it. It runs on your own key or your own model, and it shows you the proposed difference. You read that difference and decide whether to apply it. Nothing changes in the document until you accept.

Marko has no direct integration with Claude. It picks up the Markdown file you saved, like any other .md. The same method works for text from ChatGPT or Codex: you paste the Markdown, open it, and edit it.

What you can fix

In Claude’s documentWhat you do in Marko
A heading at the wrong levelMove it up or down a level in Source mode
A paragraph that runs longSelect it, ask the assistant for a summary, read the difference
A table to completeAdd a row or a column, see it rendered in Visual mode
A passage to translateSelect it and ask for the translation, then confirm

Read the difference before you apply it

Each suggestion from the assistant shows next to the original text. You see what changes, word for word, before you decide. If the rewrite does not suit you, you turn it down and Claude’s paragraph stays untouched. Nothing is written behind your back, and the document stays plain Markdown from start to finish.

Keep the file or export a PDF

When the document reads the way you want, save it. You keep a plain .md that your colleagues reopen in the editor of their choice. If you need to share it for reading, the File menu offers export to a paginated PDF, with tables and code preserved.

The full trial runs for fourteen days, with no account and no card. You can test the whole path on your own files.

Frequently asked questions

Does Marko integrate with Claude?

No. Marko has no direct integration with Claude. You save the Markdown you received as a .md, then open it in Marko like any other file.

Does the method work for ChatGPT or Codex?

Yes. You paste the Markdown, open it and edit it, the same way as with text from Claude.

Will I lose the formatting when I paste the text?

No. Pasted in Source mode, the file keeps exactly what the AI wrote. Marko shows the document formatted, but the hashes and asterisks stay in the .md.

Can I try it on my files?

Yes. The full trial runs for fourteen days, with no account and no card, and you test the whole path on your own documents.

Try it on your own file. Open a .md your AI just wrote, fix it and export it. Marko runs on Apple Silicon Macs, macOS 12 or later.
